The California Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program is intended to recruit Classified school employees into teaching careers. The purpose of the Classified Grant is to support classified employees to earn a preliminary California Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Education Specialist teaching credential. The Grant is available to support participants in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree and/or teacher preparation program.
Applications are currently open and will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Selected participants will receive financial assistance for degree and credentialing-related expenses, such as tuition, fees, books, and academic guidance. Other forms of individualized support are available to help grant participants complete their undergraduate education, teacher preparation program, and transition to becoming credentialed teachers.
Minimum Requirements: The Classified Staff Teaching Grant is open to potential classified employees who meet the minimum requirements. A classified employee is defined as “a noncertificated school employee currently working in a public school”. Part-time and Full-time classified staff members are eligible to apply. Interested applicants must already possess an Associate in Arts (AA) degree or have successfully completed two years of college, or higher. (about 60 units)
About the Funding: Participants can receive up to $4,800 per year towards tuition, books, and fees. Funds are distributed on a reimbursement basis for up to 5 years and can be used to cover applicable expenses on or after February 10, 2023, through June of 2026. Participants are expected to complete one school year of classroom instruction in Trinity County (if available) in exchange for each year enrolled in the classified staff teaching grant program.

In order to receive grant funding, candidates must attend one of the following pre-approved programs: Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal State University Chico, Simpson University, National University, Teach Lake County, Yolo Solano Center/Davis USD, or CalState TEACH (Fresno). You may suggest additional programs on your application, but there is no guarantee that these programs will be approved for reimbursement.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Teacher or Substitute Teacher in Trinity County! All prospective teachers must fingerprint at the state and county levels and understand the prerequisites set by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Follow the steps below to get started!
Start Here:
1. Credential Advising is available to anyone currently employed or seeking employment in Trinity County. We can help you research the correct credential, renew an existing credential, or find answers to the most complex credentialing questions. Please contact Dawn MacLaren at (530) 623-2861 ext. 254.
2. Please visit the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The CTC sets rules and guidelines for all credential types in California. There are several options depending on your previous experience, current goals, and future aspirations. Trinity County Office of Education is happy to help you along your journey. Please refer to www.ctc.ca.gov for all official documentation.
3. Send Official Transcripts: Official transcripts are REQUIRED for all credential applications, including 30-day Substitute Teaching Permits. Please send all official transcripts to trincred@tcoek12.org before your credential advising meeting.
Emergency 30-Day Substitute and How to Apply
*Note: Individuals may submit their application packet through their employer or directly to the Commission through CTC Online, submitting the items listed below. For instructions on submitting your application online, visit Direct Application Submission.
When applying directly to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for a 30-day Substitute Permit, the application processing time may take up to 50 days. Recommendations for a 30-day Substitute Permit through Trinity County Office of Education typically take 7–10 business days, provided all required documentation is submitted and complete.

This permit is valid for one year and is renewable. In order to employ individuals on an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit, the employing agency must keep a completed Statement of Need form (CL-505a) on file at their office for the duration of the school year.
